Nowadays, our worst enemy is the global warming. Even though we have been trying to fight against that, it is almost impossible to be effective by ourselves. However, there is an ONG that leads this difficult fight. Its goal is to reverse the effects of the climate changes and improve the life quality of people in Africa by teaching an agricultural technique.

Justdiggit is an organization founded by Dennis Karpes and Peter Westerveld. It started as a small project and has become bigger in the past few years. It has as purpose to green up Africa in the next decade and cool down the earth. It would not be possible without the help of the African citizens, which play a particularly significant role.

This technique named Earth Smiles learned by the communities and local farmers, who use it in their own lands. It consists in dig a semi-circular hole on the ground that retains the rainwater, in that way rainwater would not drain in the dry and infertile soil. That process will help the seeds to sprout and recover the water cycle. As a result, the recovery of the vegetation in the area will speed up.

Thanks to this process, 9 million of trees have been planted, 8 banks of seeds have been made, and 300,000 acres have been restored in Africa. The communities which have implemented this plan of action had incredibly positive results such as: temperatures decreasing, improvement in the water access, and production of new crop yields. Those things improve peoples’ living conditions.

As a conclusion, the organization just want to restore Africa. But they have overpassed their own expectations. With this amazing cause they have helped people not only from Africa, but also thousand of people around the world. Because the continuity of this project is going to help the planet’s healing.

Hoy en día, nuestro peor enemigo es el calentamiento global. Aunque hemos estado tratando de luchar contra él, es casi imposible hacer una diferencia por nosotros mismos. Sin embargo, hay una ONG que lidera esta difícil lucha. Su objetivo es revertir los efectos del cambio climático y mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas en África mediante la enseñanza de una técnica agrícola.

Justdiggit es una organización fundada por Dennis Karpes y Peter Westerveld. Comenzó como un pequeño proyecto, y se ha hecho más grande en los últimos años. Tiene como propósito reverdecer África en la próxima década y enfriar la tierra. Esto no sería posible sin la ayuda de los ciudadanos africanos, que desempeñan un papel muy importante.

Esta técnica llamada Earth Smiles es aprendida por las comunidades y agricultores locales, que la utilizan en sus propias tierras. Consiste en cavar un semicírculo en el suelo que retendrá el agua de lluvia, que de otro modo sería arrastrada por el suelo seco e infértil. Ese proceso ayudará a las semillas a brotar y recuperará el ciclo del agua. Como resultado, la recuperación de la vegetación en la zona se acelerará.

Gracias a este proceso, se han plantado 9 millones de árboles, se han hecho 8 bancos de semillas y se han restaurado 300.000 hectáreas en África. Las comunidades donde se ha utilizado este procedimiento han obtenido resultados positivos. Por ejemplo, la pérdida de temperaturas, la mejora en el acceso al agua y la producción de nuevas cosechas.  Aspectos que mejoran las condiciones de vida de las personas.

Ellos inicialmente solo querían restaurar África. Pero en realidad, han sobre pasado sus propias expectativas. Con esta increíble causa han ayudado a la gente no solo de África, sino también a miles de personas en todo el mundo. De hecho, continuará y con suerte sanará el planeta.
